Rita McGhee, Emmy Nominated Costume designer is best known for her works on many notable TV series and movie projects. She is no stranger to working on some of the most popular projects such as the first season of The Fox Television hit Show, Empire, Chi-Raq, Zoe Ever After, Let’s Stay Together, Martin, and many more. After working on only one season of Empire, McGhee received industry recognition by landing an Emmy Nomination in 2015. Although she moved on from Empire after season 1, she has been acknowledged as being responsible for creating the initial looks of all the cast members, including Cookie, and establishing a fashion forward foundation for the characters that is cutting edge, groundbreaking, and trend setting.

Being in the industry for over 20 years, McGhee has worked with some of Hollywood’s top directors (Spike Lee, Lee Daniels, John Singleton) and actors (Denzel Washington, Lawrence Fishburne, Terence Howard). McGhee has showed us her expertise as a costume designer and fashion lover alike. Learning under some of the best in the industry, McGhee credits costume designer Ruth Carter as her mentor. She first worked with Ruth Carter in 1990 on “Mo Better Blues”; to date, they are still working on Hollywood’s best projects. Growing her own wings, McGhee began to sore as one of the sought after costume designers in Hollywood.

McGhee was born in San Francisco, CA. Her family moved to Guam in 1968, when she was just four years old. She graduated from George Washington High School in 1982, and went on to be a graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C. Being featured in many publications such as, Essence, Cosmopolitan, Los Angeles Times, VH1, New York Post, Yahoo, Fashion Bomb Daily, and Pacific Daily News (Guam), Mcghee has made her mark in Hollywood with no plans to stop. She credits her upbringing in Guam to the dedication she puts into making it in Hollywood.
